Home Field: Lucas Oil Stadium

Since 2008, the Colts have played their home games at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis — a retractable-roof venue that replaced the RCA Dome and became an instant fixture of the city’s skyline. Its retractable roof lets the stadium host outdoor-style games on mild days while still guaranteeing a controlled environment when Indiana weather turns, which it often does between October and December. The stadium has also hosted a Super Bowl and a Final Four, but on Sundays in the fall it belongs to the Colts and the fans who fill it.

Inside the building itself, the lower bowl sits close enough to the field that the snap count is audible from several rows up, and the videoboard hanging from the roof has become as much a part of the in-stadium experience as the action on the turf. On a sellout Sunday, the noise inside tends to build gradually through the game rather than peaking only on big plays — a function of a crowd that stays engaged from kickoff to the final whistle.
